Tips for Procuring Remote Desktop Terminals

Regarding computer terminals (such as those that connect to Microsoft Remote Desktop Service), there is little benefit to purchasing units bran-new.    Bran-new units can cost as much as a standalone PC, yet usually have no benefit over a unit procured at a fraction of the price through a site such as Ebay.   The components of a terminal are not likely to suffer “wear and tear”, and performance in terminal computing is based mostly on the server and the network — not the resources of the terminal.

One technical tips we discuss in our piece on the benefits of converting to terminals is that we have found it helpful to purchase terminals that feature Intel processors and graphics chipsets.

There is also an alternative to purchasing terminal hardware: convert your old PCs to terminals.
